NEARLY 50 motorists were caught breaking the law in a single day across the Southend borough as part of a police crackdown on poor driving.
Essex Road’s Policing Team were set up on roads in Southend, Leigh, Shoebury and Great Wakering across Sunday following concerns about speeding.
Officers caught 47 people breaking the law and said they would be contacted via post about the offences.
Some drivers are facing £100 fines or points on their licence as a result, while the worst offenders, who clocked high speeds, will be summonsed to court.

Officers also warned that some of the motorists caught speeding are facing an immediate ban because they have only been eligible to drive for less than two years.
The highest speed recorded during the operation was 62mph in an 30mph zone.
A police spokesman said: “Excess speed, particularly in residential areas remain a key element of the fatal four causes of death and serious injury on our roads and further checks will take place across the district.”
