PUPILS have been celebrating the first anniversary of their walking bus.
Orsett Church of England Primary School's scheme to get pupils to walk to school has been so successful it has been extended from once to twice a week. Teaching assistant Kate Wignall, the walking bus co-ordinator, said: "The school is extremely pleased with its success and would like to thank all the children who walk regularly and support the bus.
"We would also like to thank the parents and volunteers who give their time to escort the children to school. This has ensured its success."
Temporary headteacher David Williams said: "I am delighted to see the involvement of a range of pupils taking advantage of the opportunity to walk to school.
"They are developing a much healthier lifestyle. The parents and carers involved in this activity have done much to be praised for."
