THE daughter of a heartbroken pensioner is pleading with alleged thieves to return several “irreplaceable” and sentimental items they stole from her mum in Basildon town centre.

A mobile phone with a recording from Beryl Murray’s late husband and keyring with a lock of his hair were among the items snatched by near to Primark, police say. 

The recording included an “I love you” message from …., who died 18 months ago.

Beryl, who is 80, has not heard anything from police about the whereabouts of the items for more than a month.

Her daughter, Nicola, has now launched an impassioned plea to help recover the sentimental items that mean “so much” to her mum.

“She is absolutely heartbroken and upset,” Nicola, 53, said.

“These items are irreplaceable. 

“She never delated that message because after Dad’s stroke he was unable to use his phone again.

“As well as the sentimental items from her late husband, there is also a photo of her late mother, £80 gift card, purse, medical card, address book, bus pass, and an old driving licence.

“So much of this meant so much to her, and I can’t believe she’s had it stolen.

“Why would anyone do that? It is nasty.”

The incident occurred on June 11, between 3pm and 4pm in Basildon Town Square.

The bag is believed to have been stolen from Beryl’s sholley, which is a bag, walker, and seat all in one.

Essex Police has released an image of two women they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

“A woman in her 80s had her bag stolen in the Town Square store between 3pm and 4pm on June 11.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

“Please quote the crime reference number 42/149317/22.”
