A LAKE has been closed for fishing for more than seven weeks due to the “loss of fish”.
The Environment Agency and Canvey Town Council has confirmed the Canvey Lake will be closed for angling in the short-term due to a number of dying fish.
It will be closed from today, Wednesday, August 10, until Thursday, September 29.
In a statement The Environment Agency said: “The lake is experiencing fish loss due to an accumulation of factors.
“High nutrients, ammonia, and extreme water temperatures with low water levels have all combined to reduce the quality of the water.

“The council and Environment Agency are working on the long-term management of these factors.
“In the short-term the lake will be closed for angling with effect from Wednesday, August 10 until Thursday, September 29.
“Please be aware these problems are happening on a regional scale in the East and hot dry weather is stressful for the aquatic environment.”
An investigation into the issue had been ongoing with the fire crews aerating the lake just a week ago.
Canvey Town Council added: “Canvey Lake is closed for fishing.
“The Town Council has been working with The Environment Agency and following their guidance and through their authority as a governing body, Canvey Lake is currently closed for fishing.
“More information will be released in due course as it is received from The Environment Agency.”
