A MASSIVE fire is reportedly ripping through fields near Roscommon Way.
Councillor Dave Blackwell, leader of castle point council, says fire crews and police are on the scene of the fire – the biggest he has ever seen on the island.

He said: “I can see flames of about 30 – 40 feet high above the nature reserve, it is crazy.
“The fire stretches from Roscommon Way right down to beyond the cemetery, maybe a quarter of a mile. It’s the biggest fire have seen on Canvey.
“It’s a massive fire, and it is spreading quite quickly right the away across the back of the cemetery by Northwick Road.
“With the heat and the wind it is spreading quite quickly.
“This green land will definitely be destroyed when this is finished, it’s devastating how much wildlife will be killed."
He added: “We’ve got at least five to six fire engines down here and the police have closed Northwick Road.”
An Essex Fire spokesman said: "We’ve currently got eight crews tackling a fire on Canvey Island.
"The fire is affecting a field have confirmed there isn’t currently a threat to people or property.
"This incident is on-going but the fire is surrounded and we’re working to extinguish it as quickly as possible."
