Dramatic pictures show a huge field fire spreading quickly on Canvey as crews were on the scene.
Firefighters were tackling a huge field blaze near Canvey Road.
Traffic was slow moving eastbound on Canvey Way (A130) from Sadlers Farm Interchange (A13) to Somnes Avenue, which appeared to be as a result of the fire.
Sixteen crews and two off road vehicles attended the incident into the evening which affected a two kilometre stretch of shrub land.
Firefighters worked exceptionally hard in difficult conditions to protect nearby livestock, stables and a recycling centre.
Area Manager Danny Bruin said: “Please be assured that although there is still a lot of smoke coming from the shrub land, there is no direct risk to surrounding properties.”
Aerial photos show the extent of the blaze which was the second on the island since the new heatwave started this week.
Experts warned the UK could see more wildfires this weekend as temperatures are expected to hit 35C.
An amber heat warning has been issued by the Met Office and forecasters warned more people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes, rivers and other beauty spots leading to an increased risk of fire-related incidents.
