EARLIER this week a big firm applied for a premises licence to put a two-storey bar in Victoria Shopping Centre.

Here is everything we know about the plans.

What is it?

Boom Battle Bar, an adventure bar chain, has applied for a premises licence to operate in the Victoria Shopping Centre, in Southend.

It is a major vote of confidence for Southend, with the franchise so far opening bars in major cities and sites across the UK, such as London, Manchester, and Liverpool.

There is also a Boom Battle Bar located at Lakeside Shopping Centre, which seems to be very popular.

A Boom Battle Bar usually consists of activities such as axe-throwing shuffle-boarding, beer pong, pool, and arcade games.

Where will it be located?

The venue is set to be based across two floors of the Victoria Shopping Centre.

If the licence is granted, it would take over the unit which was formerly occupied by Tangs Buffet.

When will it opened?

It is now a waiting game for the plans to be looked at and granted, or rejected, by Southend Council.

What has the reaction been like?

The Echo comments were filled with excitement when the news broke earlier in the week.

Paul Collins, Southend councillor responsible for asset management and inward investment, has also expressed his delight at the plans.

He said: “It is very good news, and very exciting.

“I am aware of the one in Norwich they have, and I know it is very, very popular, so I am hoping if it goes through, it will be very popular here.

“I think it is a very good thing for Southend and is positive to hear these big firms want to invest here.

“I would like to see it goes ahead, if all goes well, we should see some positive moves.

“Victoria is going from strength to strength.”
