Barclays is set to run a face-to-face service weekly in Billericay after it closes following representations made by an MP.
Basildon and Billericay MP John Baron (pictured) has welcomed the news today that Barclays bank will offer a two day per week face-to-face service in the town following its closure.
The service will run on Mondays and Wednesdays (9am to 5pm) at the Chantry Centre in Chantry Way from August 31.
This service offer follows representations Mr Baron made to Barclays earlier in the year when it announced the intention to close the Billericay branch on August 24.
Mr Baron said: "I am pleased that Barclays has recognised the need to provide an in-person service in Billericay and for understanding that customers may not wish to, or cannot, engage with telephone and online banking methods.
"I encourage customers to use this service based at the Chantry Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays to ensure its ongoing future viability."
The service will have some "familiar faces", Barclays says, and will allow customers to get general advice and help with basic banking.
Stuart Pugh, Barclays Customer Care Leader said: "We’re delighted we will be able to operate from the Chantry Centre from August 31 and they have made us feel very welcome.
"Customers will still have access to general advice and help with basic banking, such as transfers between accounts, change of address, opening of savings and ISA accounts, setting up mobile banking and amending direct debits and standing orders.
“We look forward to welcoming customers to our new location – please do call in and say hello as you’re sure to see some familiar faces.”
