A WOMAN in her 60s was taken to hospital after a collision with a van at a busy roundabout.

Police were called to the scene in Fullbridge, Maldon, at the Tesco roundabout at about 5.25pm on Monday.

An eyewitness saw a woman on the floor as many people rushed to help.

She was on her bicycle prior to the collision with a van.

An ambulance, air ambulance and police were at the scene and the woman was been taken to hospital.

She suffered a head injury which is not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed whilst officers investigated the crash.

Many residents witnessed the incident and blocked the scene off with their cars.

One eyewitness, Adam Scholz, said: “Me and my girlfriend had just finished shopping at Lidl when we heard a thud and a scream.

“We wondered what was going on and saw a lady on the floor in the middle of the roundabout.

“Within moments, people swarmed to their aid. I believe two in question were off-duty paramedics and police officers.

“The public then made sure both the woman hit and gentleman in the van who had collided with her were calm and comfortable until the police arrived.

“Someone even used their car as a blockade to shield the incident from view of the public.”
