As porttfolio holder for transport at Southend Council, I will continue to seek better bus services, but that does not preclude me from also looking to improve cycling and walking opportunities.
In response to the letter writer who questioned it, yes I am going learn to ride a bike.
I want to know what we are teaching our youngsters in the proficiency classes and, if I get sufficient confidence, I shall ride our cycle routes to find their good and bad points out first hand, and yes, I may even cycle from home to work when practicable.
But one step at a time. First I need to concentrate on staying on the bike and being safe.
