A TERRIFIED illegal immigrant was hit on the head with an axe, just a week after being taken to Hovefields.
Sam Nguchta Njorje, 35, needed treatment for a severe gash after the racially-motivated attack.
Two men burst into Mr Nguchta Njorje's caravan in Hampton Court, Hovefields Drive, at 2.50am, racially abused him, then struck him with the weapon.
He fled to the Jet service station, at the junction with Hovefields Avenue and the A127, where an ambulance was called, before police took him to Basildon Hospital.
He told officers he was recruited in London by travellers from Hovefields, who offered him labouring work and accommodation.Essex Police spokesman Roger Grimwade said: "He said after a week living and working there, two men burst into his caravan, racially abused him and hit him in the head with a metal object.
"He was later found to have illegally overstayed his visa, so was passed to the immigration service."
The attack happened on October 17, 2005.
The Kenyan arrived in the UK in 2003 and had been living in Southwark, South London, before being approached.
The immigration service refused to say if Mr Nguchta Njorje was deported because it will not comment on individuals.
