An interesting article (April 10) seemed to have one mistake.
It said a Dakota aeroplane could carry 25 holidaymakers and five cars. No way!
I flew as a navigator on Dakotas. We carried a maximum of 22 parachutist plus the dispatcher and a crew of four. Once we were asked to carry another person and only just managed to take off in time.
It may have been the DC4 which was converted.
The Aircrew Association is still active, having two meetings a month.
