HUNDREDS of new books have been bought for Little Havens Children's Hospice thanks to a fundraising drive.

Julie Clayton, 35, is an independent organiser for Usborne Books and approached businesses in south Essex to see if they would like to buy a book for the charity.

Mrs Clayton, of The Rowlands, Benfleet, said: "Many representatives from Usborne do book pleas for schools but I thought the hospice could benefit from this too.

"I literally called into local firms and asked them to buy a book for Little Havens. I got a fantastic response and some even chose to sponsor a specific title.

"In all, £1,600 worth of literature was purchased for the charity, which I am thrilled about.

"I know they will be well loved by the children and siblings using Little Havens."

Companies which contributed include Royal Bank of Scotland, Countryside Estates, and Markham and Sons. Karen Budge, a teacher at Little Havens, said: "This donation will help us enormously because there is such a range of titles to appeal to all ages.

"Even children who are unable to see or read can benefit from the interactive and sensory books.

" As a charity, we rely heavily on donations so this gift is an absolute treat."
