A COMPOSER whose musicals are always guaranteed a happy ending is set to lead a concert in Hadleigh.

General John Larsson is a former world leader of The Salvation Army, but he is best known for the full-length Christian musicals that he writes on the theme of salvation.

General Larssen has written ten musicals in all, two of which, Spirit and Jesus Folk, have been produced by churches of different denominations in Essex.

The general is due to visit the Salvation Army centre at Hadleigh on April 26 and 27. On the Saturday he will lead a concert performed by local Salvation Army musicians. Entitled the Man and His Music, it will be devoted to John Larssen's own compositions.

On Sunday, accompanied by his wife Commissioner Freda Larsson, he will lead public worship at Hadleigh Temple.

John Larsson, can trace his roots back to Shoeburyness. His maternal grandfather, Alfred Benwell was a Shoebury boy and was eventually to head up The Salvation Army in China. Alfred's mother was one of the pioneers who established The Salvation Army centre in Shoeburyness; one of the first in Essex.

Before being appointed General, John Larsson and his wife Freda had many senior appointments spanning the globe, including Scandinavia, South Africa, and New Zealand.

As well as being an accomplished musician, he is also the author of a number of books on the spiritual life.
