HAVE-a-go hero Adam Mapleson has been honoured for his bravery by two of his local councils.
Mr Mapleson, 25, from Rayleigh was given a bravery award by Rayleigh Town Council at its annual meeting.
The IT technician was also declared Rochford district's citizen of the year after he was shot outside Rayleigh train station while tackling an armed robber in May last year.
He jumped in to save a female security guard during the morning rush hour and is still waiting for reconstructive surgery on his damaged collarbone.
At the Rayleigh Town Council meeting last week, he was given a special trophy by town chairman Patricia Weaver who praised his "great bravery".
She said: "He acted on instinct to help someone else."
Rochford District Council leader Terry Cutmore also praised Mr Mapleson's actions.
He said: "Adam is a young man who showed incredible bravery in coming to the assistance of a woman in a robbery.
"He put his personal safety at risk and showed the sort of selfless behaviour that is an impressive example to us all."
