A SOUTHEND florist built and carried a moss corgi to Buckingham Palace in a touching tribute to the Queen – famously a lover of the breed.
Jenny Wood, owner of Out Of The Earth florist in Southchurch Road, travelled down to London to pay her respects to the Queen on Thursday.
With her she had a moss corgi – a labour love handcrafted in memory of the late monarch.

Elizabeth II owned more than 30 corgis from her accession in 1952 until her death earlier this month and in tribute to her famous passion for the breed, Ms Wood crafter her own out of foam bricks, wire and moss.
“The idea was to try and bring a smile to the faces of people who were mourning,” she said.
“And we had so much attention on the train down and in London. Everywhere we went people wanted to stop us and take a photo with him.
“Children were petting him and it felt really nice to make people smile at what was really a time of sadness.”
Unfortunately, she did not have enough time to queue to see the Queen’s coffin lying-in-state.
“We took in all the tributes outside Buckingham Palace and Green Park but we sadly had to go back home as we had work the next day,” she said.
“But we thought it would be a nice gesture to leave the corgi in Green Park along with all the other floral tributes to the Queen.”
“It’s a loss that we are all feeling so keenly,” Ms Wood added, reflecting on the passing of the Queen.
“She was such an important figure to all of us and my heart goes out to her family and everyone across the country who is missing her presence and that sense of constant stability she brought.
It took Ms Wood just over two hours to put the moss corgi together.
“He is made out of moss, foam bricks and a lot of love,” she said.
“We carved the foam bricks and wired it all together before putting moss on the top to finish it off.”
