Ating on a tip-off, officers from the Essex Police’s drugs specialist south Disruptor Team executed the raid in the afternoon.
They found Mujo Docaj at the property and a substantial cannabis grow and a large amount of hydroponic equipment – used to grow cannabis in water containing nutrients rather than soil.
The 27-year-old was arrested and remanded in custody before appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 16 to answer a charge of cannabis production.
He pleaded guilty to the charge at the first hearing and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment and fined £187.
PC Scott James said: “Thanks to the public who gave us information about what was happening in Leigh, we were able to quickly arrest Docaj and put a stop to the drugs making their way on to the streets.
“Docaj knew this was illegal and pleaded guilty to producing cannabis at his court hearing.
“But we won’t stop there. If anyone knows of anyone producing drugs or drug dealing in their community, please let us know and we will deal with it.”
