A plan to build up to 2,800 homes alongside a redeveloped shopping centre in Basildon has been approved at appeal.
Developer Infrared - the owners of Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon town centre – have been given permission by the Government to move ahead with the massive scheme.

The plans will see Infrared build 2,800 new homes, replacing the Asda store and its associated car park and filling station, Kelting House, the eastern mall and Debenhams within the Eastgate Centre, and South Walk.
It is the third major planning appeal that has gone against the council in the last 10 months.
Issuing his ruling, planning inspector Mark Dakeyne said: “Because the application involves the provision of housing and due to the lack of a 5-year supply… I find that the limited adverse impacts of granting planning permission would not significantly and demonstrably outweigh the substantial benefits.”
