SOUTHEND'S White Ensign have clinched the first ever Premier Division title with a 4-2 win over Takeley.
At Eastwoodbury Lane last night, Ensign never looked back after Danny Coulson put them 2-0 up in the first 11 minutes. Jamie Amot pulled one back for Takeley on 29 minutes, but Paul Oliver restored the two-goal advantage 60 seconds later.
Dan Waldorf closed the gap again before the break, but a 50th minute screamer from Jamie Salmon clinched victory and the title for Ensign, completing a superb double following their Essex Premier Cup success.
This is the first season the Olympian have had a Premier Division. Their top flight was previously called Senior Division One.
