JOHN Baron is backing Rishi Sunak to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.
The Basildon and Billericay MP, who also backed him in the previous leadership campaign, yesterday told BBC Radio 4 he will quit the part of Boris Johnson is named the next PM
Mr Baron said: “This morning I have signed the nomination papers for Rishi Sunak. He has a positive agenda, has good experience in government and is very sound on the nation’s finances. During the pandemic he took compassionate decisions to get the country through tough times, which will stand us in good stead in the coming months.”
“I hope other colleagues will be able to unite around Rishi and ideally avoid a contest. He is the best unity candidate – we do not want to return to the quagmire that came before.”
“I also wish constituents a happy Trafalgar Day.”
