Homes are without water after a "major" burst water main flooded a Canvey street.

The pipe in Van Diemans Pass, Canvey burst early this morning, with residents describing it a "major leak."

Essex and Suffolk Water says homes are without water while staff carry out works to fix the pipe.

A spokesman said: "Our team are working to repair a burst water pipe on Van Diemans Pass, Canvey. For the repair to be carried out safely, it has been necessary to drain excess water away from the road and for a section of the pipe to be temporarily shut off.

"As a result, a small number of customers are without water while this work is completed. While the repair is more complicated than originally anticipated, we expect those customers affected to have water restored later this afternoon.

"We apologise to those customers affected for this interruption and are supporting customers where required.

“Once the repair is completed, we will continue working in the area to resurface the area where we have needed to dig. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
