A POLICE probe into the death of a woman who fell from a high-rise tower block in Southend has found no third party involvement, it has been confirmed.
Essex Police has stated it is no longer looking for any suspects after the death of 22-yearold Sophie Leigh.
Sophie died days after falling from the Bewley Court flats, in Whittingham Avenue, Southend on November 10, 2021.
Police initially arrested a man on suspicion of murder but he has been told he will not face any further action and the force says there was no evidence of any third party involvement.
A worried neighbour who found the young woman said she had been through hard times.
The 34-year-old, who asked not to be named, said: “I always said it was not good to speculate about what happened. She suffered with mental health problems and had been through tough times.
“I think there was a lot going on and you never know what’s going through someone’s mind.
I felt there was nobody to blame and it was possibly just an accident.
“She hadn’t lived here long.
That night I heard a loud bang but wasn’t sure what it was and looked down and saw her. I called the police and the ambulance, and stayed on the phone until they got here.
“It’s heartbreaking that someone that age could be going through things like this and find themselves in that situation.”
In the days following the incident, candles and flowers were laid outside the flats as a tribute, while the message “RIP Soph” was drawn on the wall.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “A man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident in Bewley Court, during which a woman sadly died, has been told he faces no further action.
“This decision was taken after a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident on November 10, 2021.
“A file is now being prepared for the coroner.”
