HALLOWEEN troublemakers causing distress in South Essex have forced police into taking action in order to “protect the public.”

Essex Police have put in place dispersal orders around Southend city centre and Rayleigh High Street followings reports of anti-social behaviour.

According to the force, there has already been multiple incidents of disorder in and around the two areas, resulting in concern among residents.

The order in Southend city, which will remain in place until 6am tomorrow, covers Warrior Square, Chichester Road, Western Esplanade and Marine Parade.

Officers operating in Rayleigh will also have the power to direct people suspected of causing anti-social behaviour away from the High Street and Websters Way until 6am.

A spokesman for the police said: “We are acting to protect the public and keep you safe.”
