Officers were called to a south Essex train station after reports of concern for a woman's welfare.
The whole c2c train network was affected due to the incident at Stanford-le-Hope station this morning.
c2c posted on Twitter about the disruption for morning commuters.
A spokesman said: "Due to the police dealing with an incident near the railway at Stanford-Le-Hope trains are currently being impacted across the whole c2c network. Please see our website for live information. orlo.uk/gHCb5."
On the website the firm says trains are running slower due to the incident.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to Stanford-le-Hope station at 7.52am this morning following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman.
"Officers attended and the woman was safely located. She was detained under the Mental Health Act before being taken to hospital for assessment."
