A PROTESTOR living in a tree to save it from being felled to make way for 662 new homes braved torrential rain and winds without abandoning their position.

Campaigners are fighting to save Holt Farm Oak Tree in Ashingdon Road, Rochford, which was due to be chopped down last month.

Developer Bloor Homes is set to build 662 new homes nearby, and bosses say the tree needs to be removed for a new road layout.

However, campaigners moved into the tree on a platform on October 20 and have remained there since.

On Wednesday evening a protestor in the tree was blasted with torrential rain and wind, but despite being left “damp and cold” was said to be in “ good spirits” by the campaign group behind the protest.

Residents did their bit to soften the blow, helping out with drying out the bedding to ensure the protestor could remain at their station.
