A GANG of yobs threw fireworks at moving cars from a Basildon bridge, leaving witnesses petrified it would cause a serious crash.
Essex Police have launched an investigation after the group were seen launching lit fireworks from the bridge on Uppermayne, Basildon, earlier this week.
Claire Summer, 33, of Little Lullaway, Basildon, saw the exploding fireworks and called the police.
She said: “It scared the living daylights out of us and my dog was going nuts, it was just mad.
“There were six big explosions and I saw the fireworks fly through the air before exploding.
“I think one hit a car and I saw two people on the bridge and I think they came from Gloucester Park. We heard one big explosion and didn’t know where it had come from at first.
“There were also people walking on the grass verges and I was worried as I didn’t know how good the aim of these people was.
“I think it’s disgusting and it could have caused very serious crashes. There was also lots of smoke left behind so it would have affected the vision of the drivers and that could have caused a crash too.
“I was just horrified and the dog was going mad.”
She’s called for sale of fireworks to the public to be banned and firework displays to be limited to organised events.
Other residents reported on social media that some of the cars had families in them during the incident on Monday night about 7.30pm.
It comes after days before Halloween last month yobs threw lit fireworks into a Wickford Coop which was full of customers before shooting the fireworks at cars too.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “We received reports of people letting off fireworks in the Uppermayne and Gloucester Park area in Basildon at around 7.30pm on 7 November.
“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.
