THE world's only all female Slade tribute band will be singing 'it's Chriiiiiiiistmas' as well as some other hit tunes at a Westcliff gig next month.

Aptly named Slady, the all gal band who each hail from Southend and London, are also just about to release their first ever track - a cover of the giant hit Merry Christmas Everybody - to coincide with the seasonal festivities.

The band - who have been praised for their muscianship and particularly the lead singer's vocal likeness to the real Noddy Holder - have been hugely endorsed by the real, original Slade.

And the women have given themselves the pseudonyms Gobby Holder, Davina Hill, Jem Lea and Donna Powell as a nod to the original members' names.

Noddy Holder (the real one) says they're "crazy good" and "Gobby is like looking in the mirror" and even booked Slady for the original band's first appearance in 19 years together at a special Q and A event at Wolverhampton Art Gallery in August.

But back to the new single.

Wendy Solomon aka Jem Lea, who plays bass, said: "The idea really came about when we lost our manager to kidney cancer complicated by Covid and so we wanted to try and raise some money for charity as well as bringing a new angle to the well loved classic.

"We secured permissions from Sony and recorded the Christmas song over the summer, as did the original Slade, along with an original track for the B side.

"We recorded a video in The Wenlock Arms in Islington - full on Christmas decorations. The locals thought we were crazy.

"It was such a fun song to record - proper full-on foot stomping nostalgia. And we think we've done a pretty good homage to the original.

"We have had loads of contact as well as endorsement from the original members and had a really great response from original die hard Slade fans."

Since being formed in 2018, making their debut at the annual official Slade Fans Convention, the band have played up and down the country, as well as a recent stint in Norway.

From the chart topping hits to the rare B sides, the women give an authentic live Slade show.

One of these will be at The Venue, next to The Cricketers Pub in London Road, Westcliff, on Saturday December 10.

Billed as a ‘70s Christmas Party’ the band hopes people will "glam up and get down at this good ol’ fashioned Christmas knees up".

Not only will Slady be playing a live set (including ‘that song’ ) but DJ Daryl Easlea will be spinning 70s dance floor bangers all night.

Tickets are available from The Cricketers or via wegottickets.com/event/558844

The single release is available for pre order digitally through Kycker with physical releases through Musicglue.
