SOUTHEND United boss Steve Tilson has calmed fears that Nicky Bailey is set to quit Roots Hall.
The midfielder, who was the club's player of the year last season, had reportedly turned down the Shrimpers' offer of a new two year contract.
But, despite those claims and rumoured interest from Championship sides Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers, Derby County, Preston North End and Charlton Athletic, Tilson is confident Bailey will be staying with Southend.
"As far as I'm aware talks are continuing with Nicky and I don't know where these reports have come from," said Tilson.
"We've certainly not had one phone call about him so far and there have been no offers for him either.
"Nicky did ever so well for us last season and that's why we offered him an improved contract. But his current deal still has two years left to run so we can afford to take our time with the discussions."
More important are the ongoing talks with the soon to be out of contract duo Darryl Flahavan and Mark Gower.
Gower is currently attracting from Championship newcomers Swansea City but Tilson does not expect the winger to sign for the Welshmen.
"You never know what's going to happen but I would be surprised if Mark would want to move all the way there at this stage of his career," said the 41-year-old.
Mark's away on holiday in America at the moment and we will be talking to him when he gets back.
"We've made Flavs an offer too and there are no deadlines for them but we're waiting to hear what they have to say."
Tilson is also waiting for the transfers to begin across the country following a quiet spell since the end of the season.
"Not much has been happening so far at any of the teams," he said.
"I'm sure it will start getting busier in a couple of weeks and hopefully that will include ourselves."
A goalkeeper, left back and a striker are on top of Tilson's summer shopping list.
Meanwhile, the Shrimpers boss is believed to have been interested in Yeovil Town's long serving centre back Terry Skiverton before the 32-year-old eventually opted to extend his lengthy spell with the Glovers.
