A COMMUNITY is in shock this morning after police launched a murder investigation in a south Essex town following a man’s death.

Essex Police officers were called to an address in Lesney Gardens, Rochford, shortly after 8.30am yesterday after receiving reports of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers found a man had sustained a serious injury, but despite the best efforts of the emergency services he sadly died at the scene.

The Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate has since launched an investigation into the circumstances around his death.

A 38-year-old man from Rochford has also been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody whilst enquiries continue.

Since the news of the death condolences, alongside stunned reactions, have poured in from residents in the town who have been left speechless by the news.

Julie Harris said: “RIP. So, so sad. I am thinking of you and the ones left behind. I am here if anyone needs anything.”

Debbie Saboula said: “So sad. Thinking of all his family and friends.”

Tributes from people who appear to have known the victim on a personal level have also been paid.  

Leia Jayne said: “Rest in peace bro. I can’t believe what I have just heard. My stomach has sunk.”

Luke Kempster-Butler said: “Love you always bro. Rest easy up there. I can’t believe it’s true.”

Paul Wise said: “Rest in peace brother. I can’t believe this news. Fly high until we meet again.”

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe has now moved to reassure residents following the launch of the murder investigation.

She said: “We understand this is a concerning incident for residents but please be assured that we are working quickly to determine what has happened.

“We have arrested a man who we believe was known to the victim and he remains in custody.

“Those who live in the area may noticed an increased police presence over the couple of days whilst we carry out our enquiries.”
