Police were seen carrying out door to door enquiries in Pitsea following reports of an incident.
Residents reported seeing a cordon and large emergency service presence in Rectory Road last night following reports of an incident.
Worried residents also reported seeing a police cordon near a parade of shops in the street. Police were seen going from door to door asking residents if they had seen or heard anything as part of the officer's enquiries.

One resident posted on Facebook: "Be warned coming down rectory road near the shops. Both the Nisa and Costcutter been shut off by police. 3 police vans and an ambulance and road is blocked."
Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
