Two brothers have been charged with two counts of attempted murder as part of an investigation into a serious incident in Southend which left a teenager fighting for his life.

Aurel Ukcenaj and Xheni Ukcenaj are the tenth and eleventh people to be arrested as part of Essex Police's response to the incident in York Road on October 11.

Aurel Ukcenaj, 31, of Marischal Road, London, SE13, was arrested in Harringay, London on November 21.

He has now been charged with the attempted murders.

He appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on November 25. No pleas were entered, and he was remanded into custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on December 23.

Xheni Ukcenaj, 26, of Chase Side, Enfield, was arrested on Friday December 2.

He has now been charged with two counts of attempted murder and cannabis cultivation.

He appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court yesterday (December 5).

No pleas were entered, and he was remanded into custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on December 23.

Police were called to the incident shortly before 4.25am on October 11 following reports of a disturbance.

When officers attended, they found a teenage boy with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He remains in hospital and, thankfully, his condition has since improved.

A second teenager was taken to hospital with injuries to his legs.

That teenager – 18-year-old Nicholas Manueno, of Cranberry Lane, London E16 – has been charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin, aggravated burglary, and common assault.

He was remanded into custody after a hearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on October 20 and is next due to appear in Basildon Crown Court on Thursday (December 8).

Another man – 27-year-old Constantin Ozansoy, of Chingford Road, Walthamstow – has already been charged with aggravated burglary and common assault.

He’s been remanded into custody and is next due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on December 8.

Elton Vata, 33, of West Road, Westcliff, has been charged with drug offences and is due to attend Basildon Crown Court on Friday (December 9).

The two other men arrested – a 26-year-old on suspicion of aggravated burglary and a 29-year-old on suspicion of GBH with intent and aggravated burglary – have both been released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Lydia George, of Essex Police's serious crime directorate, has led the investigation.

She said: “In the eight weeks since this incident took place, the investigation team has worked tirelessly to piece together the circumstances which left a teenage boy in a critical condition and an 18-year-old man with a serious leg injury.

“To date, this has resulted in eleven arrests and five people having charges secured against them.

“But our investigation is not stopping here – we continue to identify people we would like to speak to in connection with the incident and we will leave no stone unturned as we seek justice.”
