A man died after a fatal suspected hit and run crash in Southend.

Here's all we know about the serious crash in Southchurch Road in the early hours of Wednesday.

Yesterday heartfelt tributes were to 30-year-old who Stuart Chiddicks who “lived life to the fullest.” 

Officers were called to the street at about 12.40am following reports of a man being found in the road with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital, where he died.

His devastated family have paid tribute to Stuart, with his heartbroken mum admitting “he was the light of her life”.

In a statement, his family said: “He enjoyed life to the fullest and always put his family above all else.

“He’ll be sorely missed by all that knew him.”

Stuart’s mother added: “He was the light of my life. Stuart will be sorely missed. Goodnight my angel. Rest in peace, love mum.”

Yesterday, police issued images of two men and a car that they were desperately trying to locate in connection with the investigation into Stuart’s death.

Following the appeal, a 32-year-old man from Southend and a 25-year-old man from Southend were arrested and remain in custody.

A large police cordon was in place in Southchurch Road, outside the Boots and Best Ones shops, following the crash on Wednesday morning.

The cordon remained in place and the street was closed to cars until around 7am on Wednesday.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “This is being investigated by Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, due to indications that Stuart’s injuries were as a result of a collision, where the car had not stopped at the scene.

“We are no longer looking for the public’s help to find Jason Thomas Davis, 32, and Kiy Harmes, 25, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of a man on Southchurch Road in Southend on December 21.

“A 32-year-old man and a 25-yearold man, both from Southend, have been arrested and are currently in custody. A connected vehicle has also been recovered. Police are also continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have any further information to contact them.”
