The pool will be 25 metres long, four lanes, and a continuous depth of 1.2 metres.
In addition to the pool, there will be a changing village.
Craig Rimmer, councillor responsible for regeneration, said: “This is something I have envisaged and pushed for since 2019.
“I have been involved in various stages, and it is going to be amazing.
“People of all different ages are going to love it and use it.
“We already have primary schools queueing up for children’s swimming lessons, which will help cut down on transport costs, and free up more lesson time.
“We have some of the older community members looking forward to the aqua aerobics classes too.
“The way it is set up with the design, there are no steps too, so it is disabled friendly, which is really important.
“The Eversley Leisure Centre is now being a real sporting facility for everyone in Pitsea and it is fantastic.”
Mr Rimmer added the final total cost for the project is £6.3 million.
The pool will also be delivering public swimming, aqua aerobics classes, Everyone Active’s Learn To Swim scheme and school swimming lessons.
Everyone Active adds, that the facility is also to be fitted with solar panels, which will generate enough energy to make the pool net zero, while putting energy back into the grid.
Shaun Beagle, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said it will be a valuable asset for Basildon.
He said: “We are very excited to be adding to the fantastic facilities we have here at Eversley Leisure Centre.
“The brand-new swimming pool will be a valuable asset for the local community to use and we look forward to the works being completed.”
