COASTGUARD officers jumped into action when a car was spotted submerged of a beach.

The vehicle, a silver car, was almost fully submerged off Shoebury Common Beach, not far the from HM Coastguard Southend’s HQ.

The car, which was only just visible, was being buffeted about by choppy waters.

Thankfully, the car was found to be empty by the responding officers.

Crews have also been called out to other incidents on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

A coastguard spokesman Tweeted: “SNCRT were called out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and on the 28th were called out to a vehicle submerged in water next to our HM Coastguard station.

“Two officers were sent into the choppy waters to check no persons were in the vehicle but thankfully it was empty.”
