A POPULAR Chinese takeaway has closed its doors for the final time after 20 years, with bosses blaming“soaring costs”.
Binh Wah Chinese Takeaway, in Elmsleigh Drive, Leigh, shut on New Year’s Eve after the business became “unviable”.
In a statement on social media, the management said it was not an easy decision, but increasing bills and the rising cost of supplies left them with little choice.

They wrote: “It is with regret, we have to pass this sad news to you that Binh Wah is closing down and our last day of business will be on December 31, 2022.
“The decision to cease this business was not easy, but the soaring costs in fuel and supplies have made the business unviable.
“We have been serving customers in Leigh since 2003.
“Throughout all these years, we have weathered many ups and downs. Had we not had the continued support and patronage of customers like you, we would not have been able to stay in business for almost two decades.
“We wish you all the best. Stay hopeful, stay resilient and together, we will get through in these trying times.”
Many residents on social media expressed their sadness at the sudden closure, claiming it was the “best Chinese locally”.
Laura Weavers, 41, told the Echo she had been using the takeaway site since it opened.
She said: “We were loyal customers, until we moved to Kent, but we still made a point of grabbing a takeaway on our way back from visiting relatives, as we haven’t been able to find anywhere that compares to Binh Wah and as it has been part of our lives for so many years.
“We wish the owners the very best of luck with their search for new employment.
“Any company would be lucky to have such kind, caring and hardworking employees.”
Robert Norton, 36, from Leigh, added: “When we lived in Leigh, it was a fantastic Chinese takeaway.
“It is so sad to see it go; they were very much people.
“It makes it sadder too that it is due to the rising costs as well.”
