A WOMAN described as “Leigh’s Banksy” has been knitting postbox toppers since lockdown.

Leigh resident Linda Catling is well-known for her handmade creative postbox hats, usually creating a new design each month.

Today, we share some of her postbox’s from 2022, which are normally located along Marine Parade in Leigh.

Some of the toppers include themes such as, Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Remembrance Day, cancer awareness, and the World Cup.

Linda also made in memory of our late Queen Elizabeth II.

She said: “At the beginning of Covid and lockdown, I woke up with half my sight missing, and I am now registered as partially sighted.

“After making teddies in PPE outfits, I decided to make a hat for the postbox local to me, and that was the start of it all. 

“I think I have made approximately 60 since then, and I have been at the same time raising money for the charity Southend in Sight. 

“During 2022 I managed to raise £1,670 and I hope to continue that into 2023. 

“I appreciate all the lovely comments I get from my postbox toppers and it just spurs me on to do more.”
