Plans for a new nail salon to be opened in Eastwood have been unveiled.

An application has been submitted to Southend City Council this week to transform a shop in Rayleigh Road into a nail salon.

A lawul development certificate is proposed and the former frozen pet food shop would be converted internally into a new nail salon.

The planning application states: "The conversion to a nail salon is lawful as the class use sits within Class E of the new class rules and the existing use as retail was under the same class."

Another application to transform a Westcliff commercial unit has been submitted to the council.

The applicants propose to change 49-51 Hamlet Court Road into one self-contained flat.

The design and access statement says: "Overall, the property has been on the market for a total of 18 months, which as you can imagine, alongside the current financial crisis has put the existing business at risk.

"As the majority of the nation are now working from home/more remotely, this has also proved a challenge in finding a likely buyer.

"Having looked at the options and their need to retire as soon as possible, they have now proposed to market this ground floor property as a smaller commercial property (for retail or services) and with the larger part of the ground floor adapted to convert to a two bedroom flat."

Plans have been submitted to demolish an "extremely dilapidated" home in Marine Parade, Leigh, and build a three-storey building of 7 self-contained flats.

This submission follows two earlier applications by the same applicant which were refused in March 2021 and October 2021.

A design and access statement says the applicant has taken on-board the comments of council officers and the scheme has been carefully redesigned to overcome the identified design issues.

Each proposed apartment would have dedicated off-street parking to the rear of the property.

The scheme also includes large balconies or terraces and dedicated secure bicycle storage.

An application to build new homes in a "prime location" close to Southend seafront has been submitted.

The applicant proposes to build a pair of two-bedroom semi detached homes within the rear garden plot of 82 Leamington Road, in Southend.

The building is presently a multi-occupied flat conversion, and it is intended to retain outdoor space to this property for the occupiers to use.

This scheme will involve the demolition of garages, however it is noted that these garages have not been in use for a period of more than seven years.

Southend City Council will rule on all the plans submitted.
