Coroner Sean Horstead said: "Clearly this is a case that will require an inquest. In the circumstances of an ongoing police investigation there will not be a date fixed for the final hearing. So I formally open the inquest into the death of Stuart Chiddicks and adjourn to a date to be confirmed in due course.

"I pass on my sincere condolences to the family of Stuart during this very difficult time for them."

Following his death Essex Police arrested a 32 and 25 year old man in connection with the incident and both were released them on bail until March 21.
