A Westcliff pub where a father was fatally attacked has announced plans to re-open.

The Lamb and Lion pub in Station Road is set to re-open on January 20 following the killing of Dave Peck on December 23.

The business had previously announced it would stay shut until after Mr Peck's funeral. The dad died after the attack in the pub days before Christmas.

Posting on Facebook earlier today the pub said: "We would like to announce that The Lamb and Lion Pub will re-open on Friday January 20 at 5pm.

"We will post some more information regarding this in the coming hours.

"We have decided to re-open a little earlier than we planned in response to the communities wishes.

"We would also like to take the time to send our love to Dave's family and loved ones in this time of tribulation.

"January 2023 has not been the easiest so far and in line with the true meaning of community spirit and a fresh outlook for 2023, would like to say that we have reset the clock and all customers are welcome.

"We hope that 2023 brings health and prosperity for all nations, colours, creeds and nationalities.

"All our love from The Lamb and Lion, Moonraker and Craftsman venues Peace."

It comes after a man appeared in court charged with murder following the death of Dave Peck.

Alfred Turner, 44, of Station Road, Westcliff, appeared in court charged with murder, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He's next due in court on February 13. Last week an inquest into the dad's death heard how he died after suffering a “perforated wound” to his chest.

Following his death days before Christmas, his family paid tribute to him saying: "Our hearts are broken.

"Dave is and always will be a much-loved partner, father, son and brother.

“He has been taken from his family and friends far too soon.

“While we try to come to terms with our sudden and devastating loss, we as the family ask for privacy at this extremely difficult time.”
