AN HISTORIC gallery is not opening on weekdays due to “soaring energy costs”.
Leigh Heritage Centre is closed from Monday to Fridays until the February half term; it remains open on weekends during this period.
The centre is home to a photographic display tracing Leigh’s history.
The centre usually opens every day – volunteers permitting.
Councillor Carole Mulroney announced the “regrettable” decision to temporarily close the centre on Facebook.
“Due to soaring energy costs we have regrettably had to take the decision to close the heritage centre Mondays to Fridays during January and February – reopening February half term," she said.
“If you want to book a special visit during that time we will see what we can do or if you want to book a school or other visit later in the year or need to purchase something urgently or need some help with research please contact me at carole.mulroney@btinternet.com.”
