A MUM who lost her twoyear-old daughter to cancer is set to star in a hit Channel 4 show as she attempts to tackle her grief head-on.

Becky Eagon, 35, from Basildon, has taken part in the latest series of SAS: Who Dares Wins after the death of her daughter, Darcey Shaw in 2016.

The tot initially had a brain tumour removed through surgery, but just a week later it came back and returned “much larger” than before.

Sadly, Darcey passed away soon afterwards.

Ms Eagon said: “It was really hard to process – I don’t know that we did process it.

“I realised I had to explain to my four-year-old, Riley, that his sister wasn’t coming home. It was so hard. I don’t think we took the time to grieve before focusing on our son.

“We had to keep things as normal as possible for him.

I couldn’t be in the house, it felt empty. Without Riley I would have gone to a really dark place.

“It really ignited something in me and I threw myself into everything including fundraising runs for Great Ormond Street Hospital, which helped us so much.”

She said the Channel 4 show helped her open up about her grief while in an exposed environment with others who have also suffered loss too.

In the eighth series, a new group of recruits face the greatest challenge of their life, in one of the toughest environments faced by Special Forces operatives.

The series will hit TV screens next week.

Ms Eagon added: “It was the first time I’d talked about what happened and I naturally gravitated to people who had experienced loss too.

“We had this bond and I felt these people understood me. The show was amazing – it’s hard to describe.

“You are exposed 24/7; one day feels like a month and you just think you want to go home and stay in bed.”

Ms Eagon applied to go on the show after catching Covid when she bingewatched the last series while in isolation, and wanted to prove to herself that she had the determination to “stick at it”.

SAS: Who Dares Wins will air every Monday from next week, at 9pm on Channel 4.
