A charity Mod event in Southend is becoming so popular the organisers have had to move to a bigger venue.

MOD aficionado Andy McAvoy, author of Original Southend Mods, has organised the 550 capacity event at NDance Ltd in Southend for March 4.

It was originally set to take place at The Venue next to The Cricketers but the influx of people wanting to come along saw them decide to look for a larger venue.

Andy has organised it alongside Garry Moore, who he is running the London Marathon with, in April.

The charity event will raise money for their London Marathon charity the British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association charity (BLESMA).

“The event will feature some top London Mod and soul DJs. Our friends Jim Watson, Ian Stebbings, Chris Redman, Siy Aylott and Danny Peach all agreed to DJ, and my band The Beatniks will play, with a guest vocalist, soul singer, Ria Curry, who has performed with Craig Charles fantasy funk band featuring Omar, Mick Talbot of The Style Council, and Snowboy,” said Andy.

Inspiration for the run has been Garry’s dad Stan Moore, 95, who aged 14 started working for the civil defence association, delivering messages and putting out fires around Docklands in London.
