There's been a number of high profile drug cases in south Essex.

Cocaine worth almost £2million which was destined for the streets of Essex has been seized after a Southend dealer told police it was in his car boot.

Drugs courier Kieran Grant was jailed on Friday, January 13, for eight years.

The 40-year-old, of Hartington Road, Southend, was stopped on the London-bound carriageway just before junction 8 as checks on the Skoda Fabia he was driving showed it was uninsured.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Arrests for drug related offences are often because of the positive, proactive police work we do such as warrants, operation and the responsible use of stop and search so a risk in these numbers highlights positive work taking place in that area.

Our specialist teams such as the Serious Violence Unit, Op Raptor and Disruptor teams work every day to tackle those intent on causing harm in our communities.

Once arrests have been made, investigating officers work hard to take offenders to the courts and secure positive results in order to keep people in Essex safe.

Last week, a man was jailed for eight years after being caught by officers with almost £2 million worth of drugs in his car."
