NEW homes at Leigh’s landmark former Grand Hotel will be ready for residents to move in this summer, with commercial space on the ground floor now officially up for sale.
The former hotel in Leigh Broadway - dating back to 1899 - is being converted by developers 460 Leisure into 18 apartments, with a basement restaurant, spa and shop.
The commercial space has been listed online for sale or let with agents Ayers and Cruiks.
During an exclusive interview with the Echo, a Leisure 460 spokesman said: “The homes will be on sale online very soon and people can buy them from March.
“The show home will be ready for March 10 for buyers to have a look around and the homes will be ready for the new occupiers in the summer.
“The kitchens are being done and specially designed and will be brought into the homes soon.
“It’s going really well and we have a great and experienced team working on them. It’s all going extremely well.
“We are having lots of interest from businesses for the commercial space and a few offers and we are in talks with businesses.
“It’s very exciting for Leigh and what it will bring to the town, I think everything will be extremely pleased with these businesses we are talking to.”
The building was owned by the late television star and businessman Mick Norcross, who died in January 2021.
In 2017 Mr Norcross was granted planning permission to convert the old building into a wine bar, health club and a restaurant, plus 18 luxury flats, with 19 parking space.
The original hotel dates back to 1899 when it was known as The Family and Commercial Hotel.
Leigh resident Linda Corbett, 57, said: “I think it all sounds good and I am pleased to hear its going so well.
“I think it will be good for the town and I look forward to seeing the finished building. I am sure lots of people will be interested in the homes.
“It has such a long history in the town so I think it’s a good thing the site is being given a new lease of life.”
