Pictures have shown Basildon's new £225,000 play area and outdoor gym taking shape.
Basildon Council is building a new play area, football and basketball court and outdoor gym at the popular Northlands Park.
The park will offer more than 40 different play elements when the work is complete, with the equipment allowing more than 200 children to play together.
This comes two years after the start of the council’s “play review” which is a ten-year programme of about £9 million investment in the borough’s play areas.
The existing play area at Northlands Park has been closed while construction works are taking place, with the new one expected to be open in March.
The play area preceeds a new skatepark for the park which will come later this year.
It also comes after a £200,000 investment into Lake Meadows play area in Billericay, and as works have been complete at the new play area at Holy Cross Park.
A spokesman for the council said: "The first bits of equipment have started being installed in Northlands Park's brand-new play area.
"Once open in March, it will include over 40 different play elements and allow over 200 children to play together.
"Alongside the play area will stand an exciting new games area, with 16 different activities including basketball, table tennis, and an outdoor gym."
