A suspected shoplifter has been banned from Canvey, as a home was closed by police after anti-social behaviour.

The 27-year-old man from Walthamstow was arrested on February 6 when officers attended the Canvey address after an order was in place to stop people entering the propery.

Police and Castle Point Council have extended the closure order for the Canvey home. 

The man from Walthamstow was found inside the address and arrested in connection with breach of the order in addition to a number of shoplifting offences from stores on Canvey.

He was charged for the closure order breach along with seven shoplifting offences and remanded to court, where he was bailed for pre sentence reports.

He's also subject to stringent bail conditions set by the court, including an electronic curfew, excluded from attending Canvey and to live and sleep at a London address.

A spokesman for Essex Police - Castle Point District said: "Following reports of ongoing anti-social behaviour at an address on Canvey, working in partnership with Castle Point Borough Council who have successfully obtained an extension on a closure order under section 80 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which was first implemented on November 9 2022.

"The closure order restricts unauthorised persons from attending the address for any reason and has a power of entry and arrest."
