A young child was left injured after being hit by an e-scooter in Southend High Street.

Police and medics were called to the crash yesterday afternoon in the city centre. 

Officers say the e-scooter was seized and the child was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Essex Police - Southend District said: "An incident occurred around 2.30pm yesterday, in Southend High Street where an e-Scooter crashed with a young child.

"Our CSO and BID Ranger colleagues were fantastic in their quick response.

"Subsequently Essex Police Town Team Officers and the ambulance service attended scene.

"As a result, an e-scooter was seized and the driver and rider has been reported for traffic related offences, whilst the young boy was taken to hospital for his injuries.

"Southend High Street is a pedestrianised area and is legally deemed a footpath. Combined with a Public Spaces Protection Order that is in place, any cycling and e-Scooter use is forbidden.

"Those caught contravening this will be challenged by Police and risk having their bikes/e-Scooters seized. Please respect the space and the people that use it."
