A VIGIL is to be held in Basildon in memory of a transgender girl who was killed in a park.
Brianna Ghey, 16, was tragically stabbed to death in a Warrington park on Saturday.
Two 15-year-olds have since been charged with the murder of the transgender girl.
A trial into Brianna's murder has been set for Monday, July 10 at Liverpool Crown Court, and is expected to last for around three weeks.
Police say they have not ruled out the possibility it was a transphobic hate crime.
Her body was discovered on Saturday afternoon, February 11 in Linear Park, Culcheth.
The family has described Brianna as “strong, fearless, and one of a kind”.
Basildon Pride has organised a vigil in memory of Brianna this Friday, at 6:30pm.
It will be in front of the Millennium Bell Tower, in St. Martin’s Square, Basildon.
They have asked residents to join them in memory of the teenager.
Southend Pride also held a vigil in memory of Brianna, last night at 6pm in Prittlewell Square Gardens.
They said: "We come together in solidarity and love, as we continue to fight for dignity, safety, and liberation."
