A suspected drink driver ripped off his own bumper after "nearly hitting several cars" on the M25 in Essex last night.
Officers thanked two drivers who called the police control room to report a suspected drink driver and provide police updates until they could stop the car.
One said "he is going to kill someone" and another reported "he nearly hit another car".
Roads policing officers claimed the driver was swerving across lanes and nearly hit several cars before ripping off his own bumper.
He gave a roadside reading of 96, police reported. The legal limit is 35.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "If you suspect a drink/drug driver, always call 999 - those who did tonight saved lives.
"The only damage caused was to the tyre of a police car following who was unable to avoid the debris thrown off his car however all other road users remained safe thankfully."
