Police have arrested a teenage boy and a man in connection with their investigation into a "serious" incident on Canvey.
Officers responded to reports of an incident on the island yesterday afternoon (February 27) shortly before 10.50am.
The force had received a report of a disturbance involving several people, some of whom were reported to have weapons, in Link Road.
That account included a witness describing a man who had been visibly injured.
Officers were on the scene quickly, but no victim or suspects could initially be located and there was no evidence of any assault taking place.
Enquiries have not identified any victims at this stage. Police continue to investigate the circumstances around this incident.
At this stage there is also no evidence of any weapons being used in public.
Police are also exploring whether this report is connected to an earlier incident in First Avenue, which took place at about 7.30am yesterday morning.
A 14-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man, both from Canvey, are in custody being questioned on suspicion of attempted burglary.
Detective Inspector Nick Brunton, of Castle Point and Rochford CID, said: “Residents will have noticed a policing presence in the area yesterday whilst we responded to both incidents.
“Whilst our enquiries are in their infancy, at this stage we believe both incidents were isolated and at no stage was there a wider threat to the Canvey community.”
Inspector Cathy Calder, of the Castle Point and Rochford community policing team, added: “We will always respond to reports of serious incidents appropriately and yesterday’s incident in Link Road is no different. Our priority is always the safety of our communities.
“Two people are now in custody and our detective teams will piece together to circumstances around both incidents.”
